The first song to appear in this list twice. Despite, and
possibly because of, everything that subsequently happened, I rather fear that
this flute-led blandout is how most people – particularly in Britain – prefer to remember Michael, as a nice kid who sang nice kiddie songs and was
well-scrubbed and well-behaved. There were a lot of those back in 1972. And
yet, later on in the same year, he went to number one with a tender ballad
addressed to a rat. You go figure – oh wait, you already did.
